My Chance Internship Experience
A Better Chance
Lucy heard about an internship from her social worker, who gave her a flyer. “Oh, I’ve heard about these things before,” she replied. After encouragement from her social worker, Lucy applied, particularly because the internship was designed for young adults who had spent time in the foster care system, and it offered housing and a stipend in a city far away from her own. Once offered a position she prepared herself to go. That summer, Lucy interned for a senator who asked her to stay on for the year. A once in a lifetime opportunity changed her life course forever.
Program Description
My Chance Internship Experience is a program that provides internship
and networking opportunities for youth who have or are about to age out of foster care. The purpose ofa this program is to give these youth the ability to gain skills and to build their resume. Businesses and other organizations can participate in this program by creating an internship opportunity or setting aside a position within an existing internship program for a foster youth.
Within our faith communities there are professionals from a variety of fields who would be able to create internship opportunities. There are people that attend local churches, synagogues, and parishes that run business who are terrific candidates to host A My Chance Internship Experience. You can inform those within your faith community who may want to participate about this tremendous opportunity. We know firsthand what an opportunity like this can do in the life of a former foster youth.
